Why Pray?

2 Chronicles 7:14-15 (Bible - New King James Version) says

If My people who are called by My name will humble themselves, and pray and seek My face, and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin and heal their land. Now My eyes will be open and My ears attentive to prayer made in this place.

What greater privilege is there than for God to recognise us and call us by His name - Owning us as His.

Most people pray but does anyone hear?

The promise of this verse is that 'IF' certain things are done GOD WILL HEAR. And we know that if God hears He will answer. The cry of many goes up as "Oh God why? to some event or disappointment and many times no reply seems to float back down. Anyone who has seen the film 'Bruce Almighty' will recognise the frustration and even anger towards God that individuals feel as things don't go the way we would like. The truth is that God is neither indifferent, nor powerless towards Reading but He does not answer any and every prayer. He listens to the heartfelt humble prayers of people who have turned or are turning away from evil (lying, stealing, hatred, drunkenness etc), those who seek not only God's hand of action but the approval of His face. Who put His kingdom first.

Why Forgive?

God cannot overlook sin - but he can forgive it, wiping it away. This brings healing. Ask yourself what sorrow is there that does not have it's routes in wrong doing and the depravity of man that has occurred from it.

God's Watching - look busy

Prayer invites God's open eyes, even gaze upon our lives and our town. Often thoughts drift to hoping God is not watching certain aspects of life, knowing He will judge us as having done wrong. In truth prayer invites a relationship with God!

Praying for a Town - numbers count

In Abraham's discussion with God in the Bible over the fate of a well know, ancient town called Sodom, the number of those who could stand before God was of importance. The need for believers to pray together for an area is both Biblical and necessary. We see in God's dealings in scripture that He rewards and judges on an individual and town wide basis.
